Stevens County, Washington, occupies the northeastern corner of the state and encompasses a sprawling rural landscape anchored by the county seat of Colville. The county’s court system handles everything from minor traffic infractions to felony prosecutions, estate proceedings, and contested family law matters. Navigating that system — and knowing where to look for specific records — requires understanding how jurisdiction is divided among the county’s trial courts and which offices serve as custodians for different record types.

For those researching Washington State court cases, WashingtonStateCourts.us can serve as a starting point for identifying courts and locating publicly available case information. Records across Stevens County’s court levels can be searched through official online portals, public access computer terminals at the courthouse, or by contacting the clerk’s office directly in person, by phone, or by email. The sections below walk through each record type, the office responsible for it, and the steps required to obtain what you need.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Stevens County?

Attorneys and litigants who need enhanced access can register directly through the portal.

For a broader statewide search — including District Court and municipal court cases — the Washington Courts Name and Case Search tool at the Washington Courts website provides case lookups across Superior, District, Municipal, and Appellate courts. The site updates every 24 hours at 3:00 a.m.

Are Court Records Public in Stevens County?

Washington generally supports broad public access to government records. The Washington Public Records Act (RCW 42.56) provides that most records held by government agencies are open to public inspection. However, the Superior Court is not classified as an “agency” under RCW 42.56, and judicial case records maintained by the court are therefore governed by court rules rather than the Public Records Act. Public access to case records is managed through GR 31.1 and related court policies.

County administrative offices — such as the Sheriff’s Office and the Public Records Office — are subject to the Public Records Act for records they maintain. Public records requests to those offices can be submitted through the Stevens County NextRequest portal, or in person at:
