Asotin County sits in Washington State's far southeastern corner along the Snake River — one of the state's smaller counties, but home to a full court system that handles everything from felony prosecutions to estate administrations. That system includes the Asotin County Superior Court, the Asotin County District Court (which also covers City of Clarkston and City of Asotin municipal matters), and the Asotin County Juvenile Court. Criminal trials, civil disputes, domestic matters, and probate proceedings all generate official records, which are kept either by the County Clerk (for Superior Court cases) or the District Court administrator, and managed under Washington State court rules on public access and privacy.

You can search Washington State court records through clerk offices, courthouse public access terminals, and state-maintained online tools. WashingtonStateCourts.us can help you identify the right court and locate case information. The Washington State Courts' website also maintains a statewide Find My Court Date search engine covering municipal, district, superior, and appellate courts across the state.

Are Court Records Public in Asotin County?

Washington State's approach to court record access is set out in General Rule 31 (GR 31), which establishes a strong presumption that court records are open to the public. Under GR 31, all court records are open unless restricted by federal law, state law, court rule, court order, or case law. In practice, that means Asotin County Superior Court, District Court, and related case records are generally available to anyone who asks.

Restricted and Confidential Record Categories

Certain record types are withheld from public view by statute or court rule:

  • Adoption records (RCW 26.33.330)
  • Mental illness commitment records (RCW 71.05.620)
  • Alcohol and drug treatment commitment records (RCW 70.96A.150)
  • Paternity records, except final orders (RCW 26.26.610)
  • Confidential name change records (RCW 4.24.130(5))
  • Juvenile non-offender records, including dependency, truancy, at-risk youth, and termination of parental rights cases (RCW 13.50.100)
  • Case files sealed by judicial order

Family law and guardianship cases also carry document-level restrictions under GR 22. Certain documents within those cases — including confidential information forms, sealed financial source documents, parenting evaluations, domestic violence risk assessments, and health records — are not available to the public. If you need access to any of those restricted documents, you'll need to file a Motion and Declaration to Allow Access to Records Under GR 22(c)(2) and obtain a court order.

When a document is sealed, you can't view or copy it — but records that show the sealed document exists generally remain public unless a statute specifically restricts that information too. GR 15 governs the destruction, sealing, and redaction of court records.
